Reinvigorated Newsboys Shine Again in Christian Pop Rock

Based in Rogers, Arkansas, Ryan Mattiza engages with Arvest Bank in mortgage lending capacities. Also active in his church, Ryan Mattiza enjoys bands such as Newsboys, which originated in Queensland, Australia in the mid-1980s and have forged a distinctive identity in Christian pop rock.

When founding member Peter Furler announced his retirement from the Newsboys two years ago, many believed that this would be the death knell of a group that had defined the contemporary Christian sound. Departing lead singer Furler was a key component of the group, particularly known for songs such as “You are My King” and “He Reigns.”

Instead of disbanding, the remaining Newsboys members Duncan Phillips and Jeff Frankenstein chose to renew their commitment to the group and brought in new lead singer Michael Tait, who formerly sang with dcTalk. They also brought former guitarist Jody Davis back into the fold and recorded a new album “Born Again.” The single of the same name shot to the top of the Christian radio charts in early 2016 and renewed the faith of fans around the globe that the best was yet to come.
